A2 MechShop Residency

For three weeks in March I was honored with the opportunity to create work at the MechShop in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I spent most of my time in awe of the collective's broad knowledge base. Through this I was able to create pieces for a future show at CAVE Gallery (details to be posted shortly). Here is small example of what the MechShop residency allowed me to accomplish.

This Week in Art's Fifth Year Anniversary Show

The anniversary show celebrates collectively the great diversity of art in our area featuring small scale work from many past and future featured artists.

Teaching CE RHINO in January

Rhino is an excellent tool for any maker. If you want to get your feet wet now is your chance. I'll be teaching the Continuing Education course starting in January at CCS. I need at least 5 students to run the class so sign-up and tell your friends. It's going to be fun!

3D Modeling: Rhino®
This course introduces 3D software used widely by designers, entertainment artists, craftsman, and sculptors. Emphasis will be placed on building confidence in your capacity to navigate the program while demonstrating a variety of potential uses including: Accurately modeling fairly complex 3D models, Applying materials and rendering scenes for proposals, Creating 2D layouts and cut-lists, Exporting STL files for use in CNC machines and rapid prototyping systems. You are encouraged to have original designs/project ideas ready to be prototyped during the class.

It has taken eight months but the Paint Machine is finally complete. It will be shown first at Russell Industrial, Friday, May 1st, as a part of Ground Control (to Major Pels).

A machine to capture living sculpture will be one of the featured displays.

Gallery Project presents Step Right Up!, a festive interactive exhibition of installations and backdrops, built so that gallery goers may enter each space and pose to be photographed. Visitors may purchase a 6- week photo pass to take unlimited pictures amidst the many imaginative installations and backdrops. Become an actor in a modern Western set or a reality TV show, interact with objects in mysterious places, become part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, surround yourself in a life-sized Barbie cake, take a virtual bike ride around Ann Arbor, try on masks of famous people, visit the Acropolis and other idyllic places, leap onto a photo taking machine, and have your portrait become part of an artwork projected on the gallery wall. Roving photographers will also be available to take your photo if you wish. The opportunities are limitless at Step Right Up! , Gallery Project's 2008 Fundraiser Exhibition.

Gallery Project is a fine art collaborative. Its mission is to provide a venue for contemporary art that is culturally aware, individualistic, courageous, and thought provoking. Gallery Project is a 501(c)(3) non- profit organization. It is located at 215 South Fourth Avenue in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Fall and Winter gallery hours are: Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 6, Friday and Saturday, noon to 9, and Sunday, noon to 4. The gallery is closed on Mondays.
